Obituary for Mary Wojcichowsky

Mary Wojcichowsky
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Wojcichowsky on June 15, 2016 at Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw, SK at the age of 99. Mary was born in the Wakaw area on December 26, 1916 and as a young girl, her family settled on the “Kostyk” farm near Yellow Creek, SK. Mary was the oldest of five children. She married Tony Wojcichowsky in 1937 and shortly after they moved to Ontario for employment reasons. A few years later, their love of farming, friends and family returned them back Saskatchewan. In 1943, their son Larry was born. Larry was born premature in a time when medicine wasn’t as advanced at it is today. Larry was Tony and Mary’s pride and joy and it was through their love and dedication that Larry lived to the age of 58. Mary and Tony had their homestead on a farm near Yellow Creek where Mary’s flowers bloomed, gardens flourished and great food was always available. Another huge love of Mary’s was music and dancing. When the tough decision was made to sell their homestead, Mary and Tony purchased a new home for themselves and made Wakaw their home. Shortly after moving to Wakaw Mary’s mother Nettie was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Mary and Tony welcomed Nettie into their home where they provided a loving and safe residence for her until the disease was too difficult to deal with. It was with a very heavy heart that Nettie was moved to the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge. Mary loved to entertain and her door was always open to her many visitors. When you left her home, you left with a smile on your face, good memories ineand a belly full of great food. Mary suffered a huge loss when Tony passed away in 1996 and then again in 2001 when Larry passed. Mary lived independently in her home until the age of 96 when she moved to Lakeview Pioneer Lodge. Mary will be sadly missed by family and her many friends in the community, especially by her best friend and sister-in law Ethel Buzikivich. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge for their kindness and compassion during her last years.
