Obituary for Anton Bilokury

Anton Bilokury
Anton (Tony) Bilokury of Saskatoon SK., formerly of Wakaw SK., peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on August 27, 2015 with his loving family by his side.
Tony was born at his grandfather Anton’s home on October 16, 1924, the only child to William and Mary (Oleksyn) Bilokury. He formed strong family bonds with the many cousins he grew up with. After attaining his Grade 12 Tony began to set out the paths of his life. He purchased a quarter section of land and to help supplement the farm income he worked at various jobs including as an assistant to the R.M .Secretary.
In 1950 Tony met Anne Luciuk, a teacher from the Ens District near Wakaw. They were married on July 30, 1950. She was the love of his life for over 65 years.
Tony spent the majority of his life in the Wakaw area where he farmed and together with Anne raised their family. In 1960, business beckoned and the family moved to Elfros, where they successfully ran and operated the hotel for 7 years, while still maintaining the family farm.
Upon returning to Wakaw, Tony made the decision to continue operating the farm on a smaller scale, and to fashion his life in such a way that he was able to devote more of his time to his family, the community and the church.
Tony’s life revolved around the church calendar. All Church holidays were observed and he always informed his children of these important events. Spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, on major Feast days and holidays was a highlight in his life.
Tony was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Wakaw. For over 40 years, Tony was a cantor and also held various Executive positions on the local and the district church boards.
Tony took an active part in Wakaw’s community life, which included serving on the Regional Park Board, Curling Club Executive, being an active member of Club 99 and other activities too numerous to mention.
Tony’s love for travel took him and Anne to various destinations including the USA, the Maritimes, Western Canada, Hawaii and Europe.
Although travel was exciting, GOLF became his passion. You could find Tony on the course Monday to Friday…a passion that continued into his 87th year.
Two years ago Tony and Anne moved to the Ilarion Residence in Saskatoon to be closer to their family.
Tony is survived by his loving wife Anne; daughter Vesper (Nestor) Kowalsky and children Andrew, Janna, and Leanna; son Myron and children Kayla and Karri; daughter-in-law Daphne Bilokury.
