Obituary for Anne Karasiuk

Anne Karasiuk
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Karasiuk on March 10th, 2015 at the age of 93. She died peacefully surrounded by family at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff at St. Paul's for the kindness and care provided for Anne during her stay. Anne was predeceased by her husband Anthony of 40 years. She is survived by her children Diane Hergott (Albert), and their children Randy (Cheryl) and Christopher (Sandra), son Lawrence Karasiuk (Barbara), and their children Darren (Krista), Patrick (Miranda). Daughter Shirley LeClaire (Michael), and their children Peter, Adam (Cole) and Suzanne. She has also been blessed with two great grand children Liam and Chase. She is survived by her second husband, Maurice Gammie, a resident of Sherbrooke Community Centre.
The daughter of pioneers, and one of 12 children, Anne spent most of her adult life in the Tway area as an active member of the community. As with most others of her generation life was difficult, but she was enterprising, unwasteful, hardworking and successful in what she sought to achieve. She stressed these attributes to her family especially in education where failure was not an option. Anne and Anthony owned a successful Massey Ferguson and Shell Oil dealership in Tway. Later in life, Anne began working outside the home at Wakaw Lakeview Pioneer lodge.
Her passion was gardening. Numerous lots were planted with vegetable and fruit varieties that produced a store of healthy food for her family. She became a passionate and strong advocate for healthy eating and living, greatly contributing to her longevity. Her quest for those more difficult to find mushrooms and berries led to many trips to more remote parts of the province usually resulting in another adventure.
With Anne there was always the fun side, never missing an opportunity to share a good story or laugh with her friends. Her grandchildren always enjoyed her company since they could easily relate to her, enjoy a good laugh or adventure and Anne not really acting her age. She was most passionate about family and the importance of togetherness. Holidays and special occasions were important to her which always revolved around a feast of epic proportion and attendance was usually mandatory.
Anne later moved to Saskatoon and in her final three years was a resident of St. Volodymyr assisted living residence where she thrived in the joyful, loving and caring environment. There she resided in comfort with her new friends until her passing. As she aged, her faith played an increasingly larger role in her life until the end. She wasn't afraid.
