Mary Pauline Halabura
Mary died peacefully in her sleep with her children and her husband William at her side on Christmas Eve, December 24 2013 at the age of 80 years. Mary was born in 1933 to Philip and Katharine (nee Swyntack) Komarnicki on a farm 4 miles south of Cudworth. After a brief period of study at the University of Saskatchewan she returned to Cudworth where after a period of employment she met and married William Halabura in 1958. She spent her whole life in Cudworth, first as a farm wife during the time her children were young then later after the family moved to Cudworth she worked at the Cudworth Pharmacy for many years. Most recently she made her home at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge where she was remained an active member of the community until her illness forced her to a wheelchair and then to her bed.Mary was predeceased by her parents Philip in 1987 and Katharine in 1988. Mary is survived by her husband William, her daughter Dianne (Darrell) Schitka and sons Stephen and Gerald, and grandchildren Caitlin and Stacey Schitka and Michael Halabura. She also leaves to mourn cousins Mary Zosiuk and Irene Starosta and members of the Komarnicki, Gutiw, Stefaniuk, and Kosmynka families. Mary was a lifelong member of the Ukrainian Catholic church and was active in the parishes of Holy Transfiguration (Spasa) and Holy Eucharist and later the Ukrainian and Roman Catholic parishes of Wakaw. Her faith was strong and provided her courage and steadfastness in the face of her later health struggles. Her other source of strength and comfort were her children and grandchildren who remained a constant joy to her even into her final days. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Lakeview Pioneer Lodge who provided Mary a strong sense of home and community. She will be sorely missed by many who were blessed to have been touched by her love and kindness.
