Obituary for Lydia Gulanksy (Czerniak)

Lydia Gulansky, 82, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. Lydia was born April 27, 1940 on the family farm about 6 miles North East of Cando, SK to parents Nick and Hasia Czerniak. She was 8th of 11 children and would always tell her family how she was stuck between brothers, 2 older and 1 younger. She left home after graduating high school to pursue a teaching certificate. Her first teaching job landed her in Bruno SK where she met her husband, Sylvester, teaching together at Bruno school. Lydia and Sylvester were married in July of 1962 and took teaching jobs in Pierceland SK. They moved to Kamsack SK and from there to Wakaw and eventually out to the Gulansky family farm. Lydia taught school until she retired at age 52. After her retirement she kept busy learning to play piano and running marathons in addition to helping to keep things running on the farm where she lived until she fell ill. Lydia is survived by her three children Anastasia (Terry) Huculiak, John (Norah) Gulansky, and Ramona (James) Hynes, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday April 19, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Both Services will be held at the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church in Wakaw SK with Rev, Fr, Ivan Nahachewsky officiating. Interment will follow at the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Wakaw, SK. Donations in memory of Lydia may be directed to the Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Tway, SK or to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukranian Catholic Church in Wakaw.
