Obituary for Sally Marie Maruschak

It is with great sadness that the family of Sally Marie Maruschak (Mantyka), announce her passing on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 with family by her side. Sally was born on July 6, 1945 in Saskatoon to William and Helen Mantyka (Tkachuk). She grew up in the Alvena/Smuts district on the Mantyka family farm. She married Morris Maruschak on July 10, 1965. They started farming and raised their family in the Vonda District. Sally always had numerous large gardens, raised many different animals to feed her family, and helped her husband on the grain farm as well. She always had perogies and cabbage rolls in her freezer, homemade pickles in her fridge, and warm hospitality to anyone who stopped in. She was also an active member of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vonda where she spent countless hours volunteering her time to prepare food for various fundraising events. We cannot even guess how many perogies she has pinched or cabbage rolls she has rolled. When she was 52, she obtained her Health Care Aide diploma from Kelsey in Saskatoon and worked for home care for 13 years. Upon her retirement, her and her husband sold the family farm and moved to Cudworth. After her husband’s passing in 2014, Sally moved to the Millsite apartments in Wakaw where she resided until her passing. Sally enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, travelling, cooking, canning, and anything that kept her busy. She could also be found playing cards, doing puzzles or playing bingo. Time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought a smile to her face. She left a lasting impression on anyone who knew her and was often described as selfless, caring and friendly to all she met. Left to mourn her passing are her 5 daughters: Sandra (Larry) Nagy and their children James and Andrew. Gail (Raymond) Semchyshen and their son Rhett. Connie (Joe) Prytula and their children Stephanie Prytula (Dylan Roth), Katherine (Taylor) Zich-Dieno , Emma (Brent) Blondeau, and Travis Prytula. Carol (Greg) Reich. Rosie Mantyka. Also 3 great grandchildren Graham, Kali and Ksenia. 1 brother Raymond (Diane) MantykaSally was predeceased by her husband Morris, parents William and Helen Mantyka, her in-laws William and Olga Maruschak and brother Robert Mantyka. The family thanks the incredible staff at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and anyone who befriended her and took the time to get to know her. A special thank you to her Millsite family who checked in on her and helped her out when she needed it. A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, November 1 at 7pm and the Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 11am. Both services will be at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Vonda with the internment to follow at the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Vonda. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
