Obituary for Jean LeBlanc

Jean LeBlanc passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2021 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 85 years. Jean (Johnny, John, John-Boy) was born on the family farm in Domremy, SK on April 25, 1936. He was the seventh of ten children born to Romuald and Élida LeBlanc. To say that dad loved the farm was an understatement. The farm was his life beginning at a young age, waking at 4am to stook oats in the field and to feed the animals. His most favourite of all was driving the little “M” open air cab. Dad married mom on July 4, 1961. Together they raised six children, three boys and three girls. They farmed together with mom as dad’s righthand worker. His family grew to include in-laws and seventeen grandchildren. He loved seeding peas, wheat and barley. He worked very hard to become a seed producer, spending many hot days roguing his fields, bringing his children along. His proudest farming moment was winning the Select Seed Producer for his peas. Rock picking his land was a job he enjoyed. Dad knew how to do everything. He was a mechanic, a plumber, a carpenter and he fixed everything around the house. If he didn’t have a certain tool, he would manufacture it, including welding himself a rock digger. Dad was a gentle, quiet man. He loved to fade in the background, often slipping away to check his beloved shop and the weather. He enjoyed having quiet conversations with small groups to talk about farming, world history and politics. Jean loved music and was a self-taught violinist. In the early days, mom and dad enjoyed playing music together, dad on the violin and mom on the guitar. The music dearest to his heart was undoubtedly Don Messer Fiddle tunes. Dad was very generous and would have given you the shirt off his back. His strong silent presence brought comfort. He loved holding his grandchildren as babies to his heart and falling asleep with them. Dad deeply loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Jean is remembered by his loving family, his wife of 60 years Simone (nee Ethier), his children: Henri LeBlanc and Tammy Vallee and his children, Daniel, Brandon, Cameron, Kaelan; Gertrude and George Gaudet and their children, Eric, Haley, Levi; Carolynne and Cliff Kobelsky and their children, Hannah, Noah, Christian; Gilles and Crystal LeBlanc and their children, Avery, Lorrin, Griffin, Theron; Jeannine and Gilles Roy and their children, Lukas, Gabrielle, Jacob; his sisters Madeleine Mockford and Françoise Langlois; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jean was predeceased by his son Ben, his parents Romuald and Élida (née Langlois), his siblings: Louis, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Martial LeBlanc, Rosilda, Hélène, Priscilla, Sr. Marie-Jeanne (FDLP) & Adèle, as well as his in-laws, nieces and nephews. There will be a public visitation held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ste. Jeanne D’Arc Roman Catholic Church in Domremy. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Ste. Jeannne D’Arc Roman Catholic Church on Monday, May 17, 2021 with Rev. Fr. Matthew as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Ste. Jeannne D’Arc Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jean may be directed to the Ste. Jeanne D’Arc Parish. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
