Obituary for Evangeline Vivian Kovacs

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Evangeline Kovacs, of Wakaw, SK, on April 7, 2021 at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw, at the age of 80 years, with her daughter Violet by her side. Evangeline was born at the Anna Turnbull Memorial Hospital, on the shores of Wakaw Lake, to William and Julia (Sarnowski) Olexsyn. She attended Bukovina School which was 4 miles from their farm. She walked to school every day. After school, she started to work at the Princess Café in Prince Albert, where she worked for two years with her aunts Mary Meszaros and Marie Dionne. She then got on as a cook with Kirsh Construction, where she worked side-by-side with Alice Kirsh until 1961. In 1961, mom married the love of her life, Frank Kovacs of St. Brieux, SK and settled in the Bonne Madone area where they farmed until dad retired. Mom loved the outdoors and nature, as well as all her animals. She always had time to stop for coffee with anyone that stopped in and if they happen to come close to lunch or supper, she would always make sure that they would stay and eat with them. She had the magic of creativity. Mom would get an idea on how she would like to have something built. She would then tell dad and it would be done. Mom loved to visit people, as well she loved doing crafts and hobbies. Her last hobby which she truly loved, was diamond dots. She loved playing cards and loved her cats and dogs. Mom touched many lives and will always be remembered for her caring, love and compassion. Mom is survived by her daughter Violet, her last aunt Jeanette Kowalchuk of Edmonton, AB; her brother Adolph Olexsyn and his son Lyle and family; as well as numerous cousins and their families, brothers-in-law and their spouses and sisters-in-law. A private family Funeral Service was held in the chapel of Kushneryk Funeral Service in Wakaw, SK, with Rev. Fr. Patrick Powalinsky officiating. Interment followed at the Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Evangeline may be directed to Heart and Stroke or the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge Inc. Funeral arrangements were interested to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
