Obituary for Wilfred Jacob Boechler

In loving memory of Wilfred who passed away peacefully of February 13, 2020, 2 ½ hours before his 94th birthday, at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw. Wilfred was born in Allan, SK to Franz and Katherine (Selzler) Boechler and was the 3rd youngest of 14 children. He will be forever lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 21 years Marilyn, and her children and grandchildren: Angel (Tony) Weant- Aliyah and Evan, and Laura (Mike) Murray - Emma and Josh all of Denver, CO; David (Amanda) LaGuardia - Luca and Aurelia all of Vancouver, WA. He will also be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren: Keith (Therese) - Marty; Ruth (Ken); Earl (Carol) - Sarah and Paul; and Curt (Tracy) - Andrew and Riley; his sister Hilda Sander, his sisters-in-law Patsy, Theresa and Mildred Deibert; his brother-in-law Eric (Heather) Deibert; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Wilfred was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 30 years Lillian Deibert (1981) a well as five sisters and seven brothers. Wilfred took a welding course in Winnipeg following grade 10 that proved to be a tremendous asset in his farming career. He was also a great athlete, playing baseball and hockey in his younger years. He served on the Saskatoon East School Board for 15 years and many of those years as chairman. He was a self-taught woodworker and very skilled on the lathe, making gifts and items that have gone literally around the world. He loved reading Western books. He was devoted to his faith and the churches he served in Allan and Wakaw, and was a member of th Black Jack Band playing the guitar at dances and parties for over 20 years. Wilfred’s family want to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge for their dedication to Wilf’s care during the past 4 months. A Prayer Vigil was held Friday, February 21. 2020, at 7:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10.30 am. Both Services were held at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic church in Wakaw with Rev. Fr. Matthew Nguyen as Celebrant. Internment followed at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Cemetery, Wakaw, SK. Donations in Wilfred's memory may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society for Prostate cancer research or to a charity of choice.
