Obituary for Mary Betty Margaret Motta

Mary Betty Margaret Motta
Motta, Mary BETTY Margaret passed away peacefully on April 13, 2017 in Rosthern Hospital at the age of 85 years. Betty was born November 15, 1931, in Prince Albert, SK to Frank and Gertrude Seelinger and moved often with her family depending on where the railway life of her father took them. Places such as Reynaud, St Louis, North Battleford and Prince Albert made many fond memories. Betty took office training and worked as a steno using shorthand, typing, filing and reception skills for insurance and airline offices in North Battleford. While there she did some modeling in the early 1950’s and began her love for painting with the use of oils. She often talked of remembering Allen Sapp and always admired his works. Betty enjoyed working with many other mediums as well and was able to highlight her artistic talent and express her creative abilities throughout her life. In 1955 she married Michael (Mike) Motta (another railway man) and this took her to the small town of Pathlow, SK where many good friendships were made there and in the Melfort area. Summer weekends were spent enjoying the cabin and the peace and tranquillity of Wakaw Lake. Sandra and Rick were born in Melfort and attended school in the grade 1 – 4 classroom at the Pathlow Heights School and moved as a family to Wakaw in 1967. Many more friends were made over the years and Betty worked at the Wakaw Recorder when it was owned by Ed Brunanski and later Abe Penner. Betty continued to enjoy her art, flower and vegetable gardens. Betty is survived by her daughter, son and their families: Sandra (Albert) Venne and grandchildren Jonathan (Brandi), Jason (Mandi Nystrom), Nicole (Brendan) Kaup with great grandchildren Kadence Denae and James Xavier; Rick (Gloria) Motta and grandchildren Lindsay and Vincent; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Peter and her parents, and in 2004 by her husband Mike, as well as her sisters and brothers -in -law. Betty became a member of the Wakaw Legion branch after Mike’s passing and supported our Wakaw Library branch with many requests as reading and learning was a lifelong passion as well. We will miss her greatly for her generosity, talent and creativity, love of nature, respect for all people and always finding time to spend with family and friends who stopped in to visit. She will be forever in our hearts as we recall and cherish many fond memories. A private family visitation and graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 with Bill Shank officiating. Interment will follow in the Wakaw United Church cemetery where she will rest in eternal peace beside her husband of 49 years. Friends are welcome to share memories and celebrate her life at a lunch to be held from noon til 2 pm on Saturday, April 29,2017 at the Wakaw Legion Hall. If so desired donations in memory of Betty, may be directed to the Rosthern Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Services, Wakaw, SK, 306 233-4403.
