Mike  Pokoyoway
Mike Pokoyoway passed away peacefully, February 18,2017 in the early morning after his 65th wedding anniversary, at the Cudworth nursing home where he resided the last month. Mike was born April 19,1928 in the Prud’homme area. He learned to play the mandolin in school but later found the violin to be more to his liking. He played for numerous weddings and dances with various bands one of which being the Starlight Polka Kings. He enjoyed playing till 2005. Mike also farmed, starting at the young age of 16. In 1977 he built a new house and moved to Cudworth. He still farmed from town and picked up a job working for the Town of Cudworth for a few years. He retired from farming in 2000. Then he farmed in the backyard in the garden, went dancing ,enjoyed playing Kaiser with his children and grandchildren and made the odd trip to PA to the casino. Mike was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 20 years. Mike is lovingly missed by his wife of 65 years Sylvia, his son Ken, his daughter Valerie (Tracy) Kirtzinger, his grandchildren: Tyler (Kristen), Brennan (Jessica), Amanda (Brandon), and Tanys (Tyler); his great granddaughters Grayce and Claire, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mike was predeceased by his parents John and Maria (Reshetarska) and all his siblings and their spouses.
