Obituary for John George Shaban

John George Shaban
On October 9, 2016, at 1:17 PM at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon: John took the big step from living on Earth to being with Jesus in Heaven. He is accompanied in heaven by his parents George & Anne (Kwasnica) Shaban, his sisters Mary Marfei, Evea Markwick and another who died from scarlet fever at the age of 5; and a younger brother who died at birth. He was born July 6, 1924 on the farm 3 miles west of Reynaud. He has a loving wife Nancy Shaban (Yasinchuk), daughter Lynda (Ross) Powell who has 3 children, Keith (Leah), Colleen (Byron) McBride and Chad (Amanda) Powell who gifted John with 2 adorable grandchildren, Jack and Ava. He has a son, Terry Shaban who has 2 children; Robin Shaban and Jonathan Shaban. The children were brought into this world by Joanne Shaban (Page). Terry is currently married to Yi Liu. John was a Farmer, Carpenter, Mechanic (trained in Edmonton) and a baseball player and Coach. He worked in Ontario for a John Deer dealership and made his way back home to Reynaud where he farmed with his father George. He met a beautiful lady by the name of Nancy Yasinchuk and took the big step into marriage. They were married November 2, 1952 in this same church where we are today praying to Jesus for his passage into Heaven. When you came to visit, John would bring out the cards and paper for a game of Kaiser. These games would sometimes stretch into the early hours. His hobby was baseball and he did well at it. He told the story about hauling Eggs to Reynold for months so he could buy a ball glove. He took this baseball talent and unselfishly spread it among the youth in the community by coaching and most importantly, transporting the players to and from the events. In later years, he would always be watching a ball game without the TV volume on. When asked if he wanted to hear it, he said "Watching was great". He later got good hearing aids. John would fix the broken bats and re-string the broken webbings for children’s gloves. In 2012, John and Nancy sold the farm and decided to try the "Retirement gift". John had to wean himself from intervening in the actions of the new owners of the farm and they too had to learn to say "Ok John". He helped the new owners in many ways. Anyone who got to know John, would have loved his humor and his caring. All family members and friends were a recipient of this caring and love. Dad: You were brought into this world to make it a better place for all to live. We now know you needed a little more time but you have a lot and there are those who continue to follow your teaching. We too pray that Jesus will give you passage to the "Devine Kingdom of our Lord".
