Obituary for Edgar Henry Schmidt

Edgar Henry Schmidt
It is with heavy hearts that Edgar’s family announces his passing.
Edgar will be dearly missed but carries with him on his new journey the tender love, of his wife Patricia, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Edgar was born in Melville SK the son of August and Anna but moved as a young child to Wakaw SK, the town he called home.
Edgar always enjoyed music and played trumpet with the “Naughty Six” in the forties in and around the Wakaw area. He particularly enjoyed playing at the Popular Beach Dance Pavilion.
It was on the shores of Wakaw Lake that Edgar met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Robertson. Pat was often out in the summer staying with her Aunt and Uncle (Jean and Rev. Frank Hoffman) at their summer residence, which is now part of Green Grove Summer Camp. Edgar’s family cottage was right next door and it wasn’t long before they met. What can I say about that, he smiled, she smiled and love grew on the shores of Wakaw Lake.
Edgar and Pat were married in 1951, and a family soon followed, Donald, Clifford Herbert, Garth, and finally a girl, Heather, to complete the package. They all spent many enjoyable years and share many great memories of campfires, sing-a-longs, star gazing, and satellite spotting. Edgar was particularly fond of, and good at the latter. He also enjoyed playing games of “Pennies” and “Sticks” with anyone who didn’t mind losing.
In 1950 Edgar enlisted with the RCAF. When he retired in 1970 it was from the “Canadian Armed Forces”; he was not a fan of “unification”.
Edgar then joined General Paint where he worked until his retirement in 1992.

Edgar then got to live his dream. He and Pat built their retirement home on Wakaw Lake where they had twenty-six beautiful retirement years together.

At Edgar’s request there will be no funeral service. His family will gather to celebrate and remember his life simply as he wished.
