Obituary for Doris Dutchak

Doris Dutchak
Doris Dutchak passed away peacefully October 8, 2014, at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw, at the age of 102 years. Doris was born on the family farm on January 27, 1912 to Andrew and Elena Oleksyn. She had five brothers and 6 sisters. She attended St. Julien School. Doris married Alex Dutchak on June 11, 1932. After Dido passed away in 1990, Baba showed her family that she could carry on and continue to live by herself. She was always a pillar of strength for the family. Baba was often admired by her neighbors and friends for her ability to maintain her home, garden, flowers and her health. She later moved to live with her daughter Olga on the farm, where she continued to help with bigger projects like making perogies, her special doughnuts, gardening, braiding onions and garlic, and yes, still digging potatoes with a hoe, which she continued to do into her 100th year. One of Baba’s favourite pass times was her embroidery and crocheting. She achieved major recognition from several Ukrainian churches for her ability to embroider when she was asked to embroider the altar table cloths. The churches were from Saskatchewan Alberta and Manitoba. Baba was blessed with good health. She was a shining example to all about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and a good diet. She would make remarks at the dinner table to make sure to eat your green vegetables and cut out the salt. Baba will dearly missed.
