Obituary for Eleonore Margarethe "Elly" Saxinger

Eleonore Margarethe "Elly" Saxinger
Eleonore Saxinger was born on March 13th, 1933, in Brenndorf, Czechoslovakia to Anna Brandner and Josef Löbl. Her father was a farmer and a violin maker and her mother was a house wife and lace maker. One of her biggest regrets as a young girl was trading her hand made violin for a lunch kit in school, as she did not like taking violin lessons. Her father was a peacekeeper and was killed by Freedom Fighters in Croatia in February, 1945, shortly before the war was over. When she was 13 years old, they were driven out of their home and placed in a refuge camp in Breitenberg, Germany in September of 1946. As a young girl she learned how to make lace, sew and knit and spent her whole life working with her hands, cooking, baking, knitting and sewing projects. She came to Canada on October 7, 1955 on the Arosa Star Immigrant Ship and worked for Dr. Schropp in Cudworth for one year doing housekeeping. In July of 1956, she married Josef Saxinger, who she met in Breitenberg, Germany. Five children were born through this marriage, Catherine in 1957, Thomas in 1958, Barbara in 1960, Heide in 1965 and Elizabeth in 1969. Despite some of the challenges mom faced, she always worked hard, was proud of and loved her family fiercely, worked in her community, was a tremendous cook and always made sure that our German heritage and traditions were an integral part of our lives. Many trips were made as often as possible back to Germany, where mom would visit with her mom and her sister and families. Frequent phone calls were made to her mom and sister, keeping each other up to date with all of their life events. One of mom’s most difficult times in her life was the death of her daughter Barbara, in January of 2009. It was shortly after that, where mom’s health started to decline. Mom always wanted to stay involved and current in family and community events and her favourite line was, “What’s new uptown girls”? She was always interested in the current world news and in politics. Lunch at moms was almost a daily event where we would visit and catch up. Mom always had a strong Catholic faith and believed in prayer, always praying for her family and friends. She was a 60 year member of the CWL, served as catering captain for over 30 years, and president for several terms. Mom always enjoyed visits with family and friends, and she made sure you always had something to eat and drink before you left. We will forever miss mom’s insight on life, and we will treasure all the memories spent as a family. With the help of her youngest daughter, Elizabeth, husband Bernard & family, mom was able to remain in her own home up until her death. We are forever grateful for that. We will always remember mom for her love of her faith, family, her pets, flowers, gardening, mushroom picking, tea time, and spoiling the grandchildren with her secret stash of candies. Mom unexpectedly passed away with her daughter’s praying at her side on May 11, 2017 in the Cudworth Nursing Home respite room, late in the evening. We will miss her dearly. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Catherine (Garry) Mazurkewich, Thomas (Susan) Saxinger, Heide (Darrell) Kolla, & Elizabeth (Bernard) Miazga, her grandchildren, Laura (Alan) Lawrence, Anna-Marie (Dallas) Baumann, Justin (fiancé, Chelsie) Saxinger, Michael (Jessica) Lepitzki, Matthew Lepitzki, Mark Lepitzki, Maria (Tyler) Kolla, Stefan (friend Jaimie) Kolla, Gregory (friend Marina) Kolla, Jessica (Justin) Smart, Helanna (Daniel) Miazga, & Patrick Miazga, great grandchildren, Sydney, Logan & Hudson, Lucas, Wyatt & Jacob, Ava, Isaac, Violet & Jonas, Austin, Tanner, & the newest great grand-daughter born May 12, Hila. Also left to mourn is her sister, Helga Rodler, Traunreut, Germany, her daughters Korinna (Thomas) Karrasch (Alexandra & Michael) & Beate (Andi) Schmidt (Laticia & Victoria), her sister-in-laws, Teresa Saxinger, Bernice Saxinger, Kathl Breitenfellner, brother-in-laws, Erwin Saxinger, Hans Saxinger, Helmut & Marianne Saxinger, Josef Schiermeir & numerous nieces & nephews, both in Canada & Germany.
