Obituary for Nick John Oleksyn

Nick John Oleksyn
Look to the sky - pick a star and I’m there. With sadness we announce Dad’s passing but also with joy we celebrate his life. He was born on April 15,1923 to Ivan and Elaina (Mohaira) at the homestead in the Reynaud District. His parents immigrated from the Bukovinia District of the Ukraine. On October 17,1948 he married his love Olga Kytyk and farmed in the Belmont-Bonne Madone district for many years. In the early sixties mom and dad moved to Wakaw to pursue further adventures. Dad loved carpentry and with the expertise of Mr. John Burechailo and Danny Hegedus they built 38 dwellings and he always treasured their companionship. Whenever he could, you would find dad fishing and mom made sure the fish were filleted to perfection. Playing cards, Kaiser, was something he took seriously but mainly enjoyed the company of family and friends. Dad was an avid gardener and Blue Jay’s fan and statistics were kept in his special book and he especially enjoyed a conversation in regards to baseball. Dad was not a procrastinator and if it needed to be done, being a master of all, he did it. But his most treasured possessions of all - his family; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family and friends take comfort knowing Dad (Gigi) will once again be reunited with his beloved wife Olga; Daughters: Laura-Lynn and Judith Ann and six brothers: Matt, Andrew, Fred, John, Mike and Bill and three sisters: Polly Proust, Mary Schitka and Anne Terasky and numerous friends. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Gwen (Ed) and their three children, Tammy (Morton); Michelle (Steven) and Dean; son-in-law Joe and daughter Jodi (Mike); children of Laura-Lynn, Jason and Bradley; son-in-law David (Lucy) and great grandchildren; Tyson, Bradley, Jillian, Ashley ,Austin, Garett, Raeleen, Jesse and Jackson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Wakaw United Church with Pastor Kirk Tastad officiating. Interment followed at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Remember Nick with your Memorial Gift to the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge as they were so instrumental in his care. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
