Obituary for Joseph Tony Asztalos

Joseph Tony  Asztalos
Joseph (Joe) Asztalos was born on May 31, 1932, to Louis and Elizabeth Asztalos of Yellow Creek, SK; the 11th of 14 children. Joe took his schooling at Stoneless School near Yellow Creek. As a young man, he worked at the saw mills of BC and the uranium mines of Northern SK until 1960 when returned home to start his own farm. In 1963, Joe married Irene Nemeth, and to this union, they were blessed with three children: Elvis, Laurie, and Bernie. In 1974, the family moved to Wakaw where they raised livestock and Joe worked for many neighbouring farmers in their operations. They continued to farm in this capacity until Joe retired at 65 years. During his life, Joe had a love of music and dancing, playing cards, gardening, fishing, and visiting with family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to tease and joke with those around him. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Joe and Irene lived together on the farm until Joe’s health deteriorated after the loss of their son Bernie in 2007. Three years ago, when Irene was no longer able to care for him at home, he was he moved to the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge. Joe passed peacefully away on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the Lodge with this family by his side.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Irene, and their children; Elvis (Linda) Asztalos of Clavet, SK, and children, Tyler, Dustin, Danielle, Shaylynn, and Olivia; Laurie (Gord) Szautner of Muenster, SK, and their children Brett and Brittany; and daughter-in-law Angela (Myron) Romanchuk of St. Denis, SK, and their children Alex and Evan.
Joe is also survived by his brother, Mike (Elsie) Astalos of McLean, SK, his sister, Ethel Buzikevich of Rocky Mountain House, AB, his mother-in-law, Josie Nemeth of Melfort, SK, his brothers and sisters-in-law, and numberous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joe is predeceased by his son, Bernard (Bernie) Asztalos, his parents Louis & Elizabeth Asztalos, his siblings and their spouses, John, Frank (Ruby), Theresa (Joseph) Zimmer, Mary (John) Kovacs, Louis, Kathleen (Thomas) Aubin, Annie (Walter) Wilchynski, Julia (Mike) Chytyk, Helen (Lawrence) Matkowski, and Elizabeth and Steve in infancy, brother-in-law, Victor Buzikevich, and father-in-law, Andrew Nemeth.
