Obituary for Gerard Rosaire Fontaine

Gerard Rosaire  Fontaine
On July 16, 2016, Gérard passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96 with his family by his side. He was born in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan. Gérard was a courageous, gentle, patient and kind man. He was an accomplished farmer and was passionate and kind to all of his animals. He loved fishing, travelling, reading, playing cards and spending time with friends and his large family. Gérard was a man of deep faith. For 66 years, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Gérard will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Thérèse; his twin daughters Jeannine (Bob) Schulz and Jacqueline (Taras) Holinaty; Alice (Maurice) Hounjet; René (Marleen) Fontaine; Solange (Dennis) Bakker; Anita (Marc) Loiselle; Claude (Lisa) Fontaine; and André (D’Arcy) Fontaine. He greatly loved his 21 grand children and 21 great-grand children. He is survived by his sister Thérèse Thibault and his brother Lionel (Fernande) Fontaine. He was predeceased by his parents Ludger and Eva (Marcotte); his brothers Albert (Marie) Fontaine, Ernest (Irene) Fontaine, and Armand (Odile) Fontaine; his sisters Ida (Raymond) Huard, Cécile (Raymond) Georget; his brother-in-law Robert Thibault; his goddaughter Gisèle; and his dear great-grandson Jacob Sévigny. The family wishes to thank the Home First team for providing sensitive and compassionate care to Gérard and the family throughout his illness. The family also wishes to thank the Parishes of St. Augustine and Holy Spirit for their spiritual ministry. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sts. Donatien et Rogatien Roman Catholic Church in Prud’homme, SK, on Wednesday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m., led by Celebrant Rev. Fr. Steve Morrisey, CSsR, and Con-Celebrant Rev. Fr. Marc Mireau. Due to road construction on Highway 27, the family recommends that attendees take Highway 5 and the Prud’home grid north. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gérard to Home First, 201-310 Idylwyld Drive North, Saskatoon, SK., S7L 0Z2, attention Shari Cherepacha.
