Deanna Ann  Oleksyn
Oleksyn – Deanna Ann (nee Warsimage) of Wakaw, SK (1938-2016) daughter of the late Onufrey and Anna Warsimage passed away with her family by her side on April 29, 2016 at the Royal University Hospital at the age of 77 years. Deanna leaves to mourn her passing her children: Dale (Cindy) of Camrose, AB; Daryl of Wakaw, SK; Bev (M.J) Hegedus of Wakaw, SK and Betty (Dwayne) Hegedus of Saskatoon, SK.; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, her sisters Mary Miller and Jean Stephens; her sister-in-law Betty Warsimage, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Deanna was predeceased by;
her parents Onufry & Anna (Hrebeniuk) Warsimage, her husband Peter, her siblings: William (Jessie) Warsimage, Kay (McCall) Harrington, Jimmy Warsimage, John (Frieda) Warsimage, Walter Warsimage and two infant brothers; her brother-in-law Bud Miller, her niece Sharon Kalmakoff and her nephews Kevin Oleksyn & Ronnie Oleksyn. Deanna was born and raised in Kamloops, BC. After finishing school she worked as a telephone operator with BC tel. In 1957 she married Peter Oleksyn of Wakaw, SK. Together they did mixed farming until 1998 when Peter retired from farming. While running a mixed farm Deanna decided to go back to work outside the home. Deanna took the Nursing Aide course and then was employed at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge from 1980 until her retirement in 1998. Deanna enjoyed gatherings with family and friends and having many games of Kaiser or hand and foot until the wee hours of the morning. Deanna’s passions were gardening, planting numerous amounts of flowers, reading, making sure all her bird feeders were always filled especially for the hummingbirds, scratch tickets, canning and spending endless hours doing crossword puzzles. Deanna was well known by family and friends for making the best canned pickles and homemade chicken noodle soup. Her favourite pass time was sitting on the deck with her dog “Mindy” and watching the birds and sitting amongst her flowers. The family would like to thank the numerous friends and family that stopped by to visit Mom, bringing food and their morale support during the unfortunate 9 days while Mom was in the hospital. The Prayer Vigil was held at on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy was held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Both Services were held at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cudworth with Rev. Fr. Mykola Romanets officiating. Interment followed in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Deanna may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK., 306-233-4403.
