Obituary for Helen Mantyka

Helen  Mantyka
Helen passed away peacefully on January 3, 2015 at the Cudworth Nursing Home at the age of 96 years. Helen was born on the family farm August 25, 1918 in the Tarnopol District to Alexander and Maria Tkachuk. She married William Mantyka in October of 1939. They farmed in the Vonda, Smuts and Alvena districts. In 1982, Helen and William moved to Vonda where Helen lived for 31 years after which time she moved to Cudworth where she lived at St. Michael’s Haven and later relocated to the Cudworth Nursing Home. Helen really loved the farming lifestyle and was a very hard worker. She often got by with limited resources, growing massive gardens, enough for herself and her family as well as her neighbors. No one left her house without an invitation to join her for a meal. She gardened well into her 90's. Helen leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Raymond (Dianne), Sally and Robert; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, her sisters Margaret (Earl) Haatvedt and Victoria Stocki, her sisters-in-law Jean Tkachuk and Anne Tkachuk, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Helen was predeceased by her parents, her husband William, her brothers: Alex, Rudolph, Walter and Leon; her sisters: Anne Pasternak, Elizabeth Thomas, Darcy and Pauline; her son-in-law Morris Maruschak, her daughter-in-law Betty Morrissey and her brothers-in-law Frank Stocki and Mike Pasternak.
