Obituary for Deszo Joseph "Dan" Herman

Deszo Joseph "Dan" Herman
We are very saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Dan at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge in Wakaw, at the age of 80 years. Dad was born and raised on the farm, a place his heart would always belong. Dad met and married Elizabeth Poth of Yellow Creek, in October of 1955. They lived on the family farm where they raised three daughters. Over time, their family expanded to three sons-in-law, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Next to his wife and family, Dad’s second greatest love was “Domremy Beach” on Wakaw Lake. There were spent many wonderful years, building many friendships and creating many wonderful memories including great fried chicken, horseshoe tournaments and fish derbies. Dad had many talents, from building their house in Wakaw to making the most intricate horse and buggy (with mother’s help of course). He was an active member of the Lion’s Club, the Hungarian Club, Club 99 and the church choir. Dad had many health obstacles throughout his lifetime. As a young man, he coped with asthma yet continued to farm. 20 years ago, dad had his first of three hip surgeries which ailed him to his dying day. In August of 2011 Dad’s suffered a major heart attack which proved to be his greatest obstacle. This strong willed, determined man fought to live and with the undying love and devotion of his wife, he lived for two more years. But now, the time came to say good-bye. Dad was too tired to fight. With our blessings, he went peacefully to a better place. Till we meet again.....We Love You! Dan is survived by his wife and soul mate, Elizabeth, his daughters: Debbie (Dale) Kardos of Wakaw, SK., Wenda (Dale) Schitka of Calgary, AB., and Donna (Russell) Hauser of Middle Lake, SK.; his grandchildren: Brandie (Ronald) Georget, Christie (Richard) Green, Derrick (Rheannon Akister) Kardos, Barrett Schitka, Brandon Schitka, Aaron (Deena Martinka) Hauser and Brett (Ashton Zimmerman) Hauser; his great grandson Erik Green; his brother Peter (Doris) Herman of Shellbrook, SK., his sisters-in-law Katherine Herman of Wakaw, SK., Vera Herman of Cochrane, AB., and Mary Poth of Saskatoon, SK.; his brother-in-law Tony (Mary) Poth of Cudworth, SK.; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dan was predeceased by his parents Imre and Mary (Toth) Herman, his sister Helen, his brothers Alex and Louis and his brother-in-law Joe Poth. A public visitation was held at the Chapel of Kushneryk Funeral Service in Wakaw, on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Wakaw, on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Phong Tran as celebrant. Interment followed in the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dan may be directed to the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge, Wakaw, SK.
